FAQ
What is "Permanent Jewelry"?
Permanent jewelry is a wonderful way to celebrate occasions, mark milestones, make a style statement and create special memories with friends and loved ones. We custom fit a chain to your wrist, neck, or ankle. A small welder is used to weld the ends of the chain together for an easy and painless process. We do not use a clasp. Instead, a tiny jump ring is used to connect and weld the two ends of the chain, turning it into a “permanent” piece of jewelry. Please keep in mind that the term “permanent” is used because the jewelry is claspless and meant to be worn 24/7. While we use the word “permanent,” our jewelry is dainty, not indestructible. It has the potential to last for years with proper care, but can be removed if needed. To remove your permanent jewelry piece, simply use scissors or nail clippers to cut the jump ring (the ring that was welded). Those with allergies to gold, silver, nickel or other metal allergies should avoid getting permanent jewelry using these metals.
Does it hurt?
No pain is involved. The only feeling you will have is the excitement of having a beautiful new piece of jewelry and the memories made while doing so.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, we work through appointments (Greater Louisville area only). A $25 deposit is required to schedule your private appointment. This deposit will be applied towards your total on the day of your appointment. Deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred if you reschedule with at least 24 hours notice. A $20 travel fee will apply for private appointments if we come to you, or we can make arrangements for you to come to our in-home studio in Lanesville, IN at no cost.
We also have availability for In-Your-Home Jewelry Experience (Greater Louisville and Greater Nashville areas only). It’s a relaxed and low-pressure gathering where you can invite a few friends, put out some snacks, and enjoy some quality time with your friends. While we take care of helping everyone choose a beautiful piece of jewelry, you can simply relax and unwind.

How long does it take?
Each private appointment lasts approximately 10–15 minutes. We kindly ask that you arrive on time, as this allows us to assist you in selecting your chain, ensure a custom fit tailored specifically to you, and complete the welding process for your new favorite piece.
For larger group events, weld time is significantly reduced by bringing in additional assistants and permanent jewelry stylists to help manage flow, reduce wait times, and ensure a seamless experience for all guests.
How many pieces can I get with one appointment?
Each appointment is designed for one signature permanent jewelry piece. Guests are welcome to add additional pieces during their visit if time allows. For guests planning multiple pieces (3+ pieces), we recommend booking additional time to ensure a relaxed, fully customized experience.
What materials do you use?
We offer options in 14K gold filled (NOT gold plated), 14K rose gold filled, sterling silver, and stainless steel. Those with allergies to gold, silver, nickel or other metal allergies should avoid getting permanent jewelry.
Gold filled material is made by bonding a layer of 12K or 14K gold alloy to a base metal core (typically brass, but sometimes copper or silver). This creates a material with the appearance and durability of solid gold, but at a lower cost. Gold filled is the industry standard for permanent jewelry.
14K Rose Gold filled is a high-quality, durable jewelry material made by pressure-bonding a thick layer of solid 14K rose gold over a base metal (usually jeweler’s brass or copper). The “rose” color is achieved by mixing pure gold with copper alloy, giving it a distinctive blush-pink hue.
Sterling Silver is real silver but with an important difference. Pure silver (or fine silver) is 99.9% silver, but it’s too soft to make into durable jewelry and other items. To strengthen it, fine silver is alloyed with 7.5% copper, creating what we know as sterling silver.
Stainless steel is a popular choice for permanent jewelry due to its durability and affordability. Our stainless steel pieces are PVD coated. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) stainless steel is a durable, high-quality metal finish applied through a specialized coating process that bonds color to stainless steel. This creates a strong, long-lasting surface that is highly resistant to tarnish, fading, corrosion, and everyday wear. While it is more durable than traditional plated metals, it should still be cared for properly by avoiding harsh chemicals, chlorine, and abrasive materials to maintain its finish over time.

Does my permanent jewelry come with a guarantee or warranty?
All permanent jewelry services and materials are final sale. Due to the custom, permanent, and welded nature of the jewelry, no refunds, exchanges, or credits will be issued for any reason, including but not limited to allergic reactions, discomfort, change of mind, or improper care after service. Our Permanent Jewelry Stylists employ an inspection process to ensure your jewelry is properly fitted to your liking and securely welded before you exit your appointment.
If your Permanent Jewelry ever breaks AT THE WELD spot, we will re-weld at no charge as long as you still have the chain. The original chain must be brought in for a re-weld.
If your jewelry gets snagged or caught on something, it may stretch or break. Permanent jewelry chains are dainty and durable, but not indestructible. The longevity of the jewelry is directly influenced by care and lifestyle. SKYLINE SPARKS is not responsible for stretched, broken or lost chains. If your chain ever stretches and needs to be shortened, simply schedule a repair appointment and we will cut, refit, and re-weld your chain at no charge, provided it was originally applied by Skyline Sparks. For foreign re-welds (chains not originally purchased from Skyline Sparks), a re-weld service fee of $15 per piece applies.
If after your appointment you decide your chain needs to be re-sized, you may schedule a repair appointment at no charge. Please note this applies only to chains that are too large. We can always shorten a chain, but we are unable to add length once it has been welded. If a chain is determined to be too small, a new chain will need to be purchased.
If you ever need to remove your permanent jewelry, simply cut the welded jump ring with nail clippers, sharp scissors or other wire cutter and save your chain. Contact us for a free re-weld to have it welded on again.
Please note: Certain medications can slightly change your skin chemistry (sweat, oils, acidity), which may cause tarnishing or discoloration. Everyone’s skin has a different pH. If someone has more acidic skin, they may notice faster darkening and/or slight discoloration at contact points which requires more frequent need for cleaning. In both of these instances, this is a body chemistry reaction, not a flaw in the jewelry.
Permanent jewelry is not recommended for individuals with pacemakers, metal allergies, or any medical conditions that may be affected by metals, alloys, or welding processes. Permanent jewelry is made using various metals and alloys. While these materials are commonly well-tolerated, trace amounts of nickel or other alloy metals may be present, and allergic reactions or skin sensitivities may occur even if you have no prior history of sensitivity or if materials are labeled as hypoallergenic or nickel-free. Each client is responsible for disclosing any known or suspected metal allergies or sensitivities prior to receiving service. Skyline Sparks Permanent Jewelry does not guarantee that any material will be free from allergic reaction, whether known, unknown, or previously experienced. By choosing to proceed with the application of permanent jewelry, each client voluntarily assumes all risks associated with allergic reactions, irritation, or sensitivity, whether immediate or delayed. No refunds, exchanges, or credits will be issued for any reason related to allergic reactions or sensitivities.
We cannot offer replacements, refunds, or discounts to replace broken (see above exception) or lost chains, due to the personal nature of the wearer’s lifestyle, job, and other external factors that are out of our control. Our chains are dainty, but not indestructible.
Do you weld permanent jewelry on children?
Permanent jewelry or any jewelry piece can be a danger to young children. Skyline Sparks does not apply jewelry on anyone under the age of 5. Minors ages 5-17 can receive jewelry from us with a signed consent by a legal guardian and the guardian must be present. Please keep in mind, sports and activities may not be conducive to long-term wear.
How do I care for my permanent jewelry?
To keep your permanent jewelry looking its best, use a soft cloth to gently scrub the jewelry with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Use a polishing cloth to restore shine. A small amount of gentle soap, such as Dawn, along with a soft bristled brush can be used to clean off excess oil, dead skin cells and sweat.
Avoid harsh chemicals and exposure to bleach and chlorine. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can damage the metal. If your jewelry comes into contact with lotions or perfume, wash immediately after exposure. It is best to avoid using self tanner as it can change the color of your chain.
Be mindful of activities that can damage your permanent jewelry. The durability of permanent jewelry depends on the material/metal used as well as the wearer’s lifestyle, job and other external factors.
Please keep in mind everyone’s body chemistry is different and some people naturally produce more oils or acids that can accelerate tarnishing. Everyone’s skin has a different pH. If someone has more acidic skin, they may notice faster darkening of silver and/or slight discoloration at contact points which requires more frequent need for cleaning. This is a body chemistry reaction, not a flaw in the jewelry.
Sterling silver jewelry may naturally tarnish or darken when exposed to certain elements, including but not limited to chlorine, saltwater, hot tubs and well water. This is a normal reaction of the metal and is not considered a defect. Any darkening or oxidation can often be naturally reduced over time (usually 7-10 days) through regular wear, as friction and contact with skin and clothing help gently polish the surface. Cleaners, such as TarnX, can be used on your sterling silver pieces, but is not intended to clean gold filled jewelry. If using a cleaner such as TarnX, avoid contact with the skin by putting on a rubber or plastic glove, placing the chain over the glove and using a cotton ball dampened with the cleaner. Rinse with water. If you use well water regularly, it is best to choose a stainless steel chain as well water will continuously darken sterling silver.
If your jewelry gets snagged or caught on something, it may stretch or break. Permanent jewelry chains are dainty and durable, but not indestructible. The longevity of the jewelry is directly influenced by care and lifestyle.
Certain medications can slightly change your skin chemistry (sweat, oils, acidity), which may cause tarnishing or discoloration.
Proper care and avoidance of prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals will help maintain the original finish for longer.
